The route to your bike licence: The route you take to your full licence may be restricted to your age but the process is the same for all tests.

CBT

This training course must be taken by...

anyone wishing to ride a motorcycle on road as a learner or those wishing to go to full bike test.  It is also mandatory requirement for anyone who does not already have a full moped licence to ride this category of vehicle on road as a learner only.  A valid CBT certificate is required to go for the full test.

If you are over 17 and under 19...

then your test can be taken on a maximum of 125cc bike and once your test is passed you will be restricted to 14.6bhp (11kw) permanently. You can choose this option if you are over 19, however the same permanent restrictions apply.

If you are over 19 and under 24...

then your test can be taken on a bike of a minimum 20kw (26.5bhp) and maximum 35kw (46.6bhp). This will give you a licence permanently restricting you to a bike with a maximum power output of 35kw ( not derived from a vehicle of more than 70kw.) Should you wish after a minimum of 2 years of holding this A2 category licence you can take the A category tests and obtain a full unrestricted licence.

This is referred to as Direct Access...

and you will need to be over 24 for this option, once these tests has been passed you would be able to ride any size bike you wish immediately.

On-road test can be taken locally and...

tests your ability to ride in traffic under normal road conditions, using both urban and rural routes. This test is required for all categories of bike licence.

3 ways to train:-

Intensive courses

Semi Intensive

Sessions

With Semi intensive and sessions training we recommend you split mod 1 & Mod 2 tests with a break of at least 5 days as failing the mod 1 test will prevent you from taking your mod 2 and the test fee would be lost as it will be inside the allowed cancellation time. The tests themselves for all categories of licence are identical it is purely differentiated by the size of bike ridden on the test.
