The route to your bike licence: The route you take to your full licence may be restricted by your age but the process is the same for all tests.
If you are over 17 and under 19...
then your test can be taken on a minimum 120cc and maximum of 125cc bike and once your test is passed, you will be restricted to 14.6bhp (11kw) permanently.
If you are over 19 and under 24...
then your test can be taken on a bike of a minimum 20kw (26.5bhp) 245cc and maximum 35kw (46.6bhp). This will give you a licence permanently restricting you to a bike with a maximum power output of 35kw (not derived from a vehicle of more than 70kw.) Should you wish, after a minimum of 2 years of holding this A2 category licence you can take the A category tests and obtain a full unrestricted licence. You can also take the Category A licence at 24 even if you have had your A2 licence for less than 2 years, however you will need a valid theory test document.

3 ways to train:- Intensive courses/Semi Intensive and flexible 3-hour sessions. With Semi-intensive and Flexible training sessions we recommend you split mod 1 & Mod 2 tests with a break of at least 14 days, as not passing the mod 1 test will prevent you from taking your mod 2 and the test fee would be lost. The tests themselves for all categories of licence are identical it is purely differentiated by your age and the size of bike ridden on the test.

Category of motorcycle required for test: A2 – Motorcycle without sidecar with: – cubic capacity of at least 245cc – engine power of at least 20kW (26.5bhp) not exceeding 35kW (46.6bhp) – power to weight ratio not exceeding 0.2kW/kg not derived from a vehicle more than double it’s power Minimum age: 19 Access Requirements: Must hold a valid CBT and theory test certificate and take module 1 & 2 practical tests. (Progressive Access) must have held an A1 licence for a minimum of two years and take Module 1 & 2 practical tests within 6 months of each other.

Category of motorcycle required for test: A – As above Minimum age: 24 Access Requirements: (Direct Access) Hold a valid CBT and theory test certificate and take module 1 & 2 practical tests. Motorcycle candidates must always have a valid theory test certificate before taking their first practical motorcycle test (Module 1). Unless they take are taking the progressive access route. The Module 2 tests must be taken under the same theory certificate before it expires.
